Why have I not heard of Aeris Environmental before now?

Aeris is a listed Australian based business with over four decades of track record providing leading edge technology to leaders in the health care field including to 3M, J&J, Schulke Myer, Getinge, Ecolab, Henry Schein.

The pandemic highlighted Aeris technologies outside the immediate healthcare sector and with climate change regulation becoming an ever increasing focus for businesses, Aeris’ proven greener technologies are now tackling real world hygiene problems across a wide range of industries in a more environmentally sustainable manner than rival legacy and often toxic, conventional chemistry.

Do Aeris products have UK approval?

Yes, their products are approved for sale in the UK. They are UK REACH compliant and all active biocides are on the GB Article 95 list.

Are products safe for use in food industries

Yes, the products are HACCP certified. The HACCP Food Safety Certification Programme is a food safety management system that focuses on identifying and controlling hazards that could pose a risk to food safety. Whilst HACCP certification is not a legal requirement in the UK, it is often a requirement for businesses that supply food products to certain markets or customers, or for businesses that wish to demonstrate their commitment to food safety and quality management.

What is environmental hygiene?

Environmental hygiene covers all the practical prevention and control measures used to improve the basic environmental conditions affecting human health. In a building environmental hygiene would include cleaning equipment and disinfecting surfaces according to best practice to remove and destroy potential infectious microorganisms.

What is the relevance of PEFC to products you supply?

The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is an international non-profit organisation that promotes sustainable forest management and certification. PEFC provides a framework for the independent certification of forest management practices that meet its sustainability standards. This includes criteria for forest management, such as ensuring the protection of biodiversity, maintaining the productivity of the forest, and respecting the rights of local communities and indigenous peoples. PEFC also provides certification for chain-of-custody, which ensures that wood and wood-based products are sourced from certified sustainably managed forests. PEFC is recognised as a global authority on sustainable forest management and certification. Its certification standards are applied in over 50 countries worldwide, and its members include national forest certification systems, NGOs, and industry associations. The aim of the PEFC is to promote the sustainable management of forests worldwide, to protect the ecological, social and economic values of forests, and to provide a means for businesses to demonstrate their commitment to sustainable sourcing of forest products.

Why is Aeris Active so good at cleaning & disinfection?

Aeris Active’s dual biocides provide a significant advantage in disinfection and mould remediation.

Firstly, it greatly increases the product’s killing spectrum when applied to a surface as a liquid, ensuring the rapid elimination of bacteria, fungi, algae, lichen, and viruses, within 60 seconds. In addition, the hydrogen peroxide’s bleaching action also removes any unsightly deposits or stains they leave behind. When the product dries, it creates a clear and flexible film that is not sticky. The biocide quat present in the film is effective enough to kill microorganisms upon contact, and this performance can last for over 200 touches. Finally, the product also contains a surfactant system that works synergistically with the quat’s detergency, ensuring excellent cleaning activity.

Aeris Active ensures longer term protection from harmful micro-organisms without the negative impact on the environment caused by over use of toxic biocides.

MKT-097-EU-01 Aeris Active – Technical Data Overview (EN)

Why does Aeris' long term film protection perform better than its well publicised rivals?

Silane Quats have been around since the mid 80’s when Dow Corning, the worlds largest silicone manufacturer developed a biocidal quaternary compound that attached to surfaces. The challenge with these frequently publicised longer term antimicrobial silane products is,

  • They are easily removed from surfaces due to solubility of Quat compounds
  • They are expensive active ingredients therefore used in low concentration
  • They are very chemically active so are easily deactivated when coming into contact with a wide range of substances.

For these reasons most commonly used silane Quat products are typically used twice, once to clean the surface and then a second time to leave a residual. Concerns have also recently been raised regarding long term efficacy claims.

In contrast Aeris have developed a unique system of disinfection that overcomes the limitations of these silane quats that attach to surfaces.

  • Aeris Active contains a far greater % active ingredient than rival products providing greater reassurance of efficacy.
  • Aeris Active has a patented biopolymer film that fixes the active ingredients in place, making it more effective to real world challenges such as moisture and abrasion.

The validation study upon which the Australian Health Authorities approved the “residual antimicrobial” claim for Aeris Active was a demonstration of significant residual antimicrobial activity after surfaces had been touched by human hands on 200 occasions.

Aeris Active has two further benefits

  • The residual film protection does not build up as it is cleverly removed by the next application of the product
  • A secondary active substance provides further rapid action elimination of viruses, both enveloped such as COVID-19 and the very difficult non-enveloped too.

What are your key sustainability priorities ?

Minimise our environmental impact:

We seek to choose products with minimal environmental impact and encourage our suppliers to adopt sustainable manufacturing and packaging practices. We recognise that shipping product currently from overseas is increasing our carbon footprint, however we shall address this long term by establishing a licensed UK toll manufacturer. Our technology when implemented does significantly reduce the need for traditional cleaning and disinfection products which themselves are having a larger current impact on the environment.

Seek to reduce waste:

We encourage recycling and proper disposal of our products, ensuring packing is minimised and recyclable where ever possible. We provide large recyclable plastic containers as refills for our smaller frequent use products.

Ensuring product safety:

Our products are designed to promote the use of non-toxic, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly alternatives and wherever possible, avoiding harmful chemicals or ingredients that can contribute to air or water pollution. The majority of our product range are classified as non dangerous goods and so can be distributed more safely with minimal risk to human health and the environment.

Encouraging sustainable practices:

We encourage your customers to adopt sustainable cleaning practices, such as avoiding single-use products. We provide education and training on sustainable cleaning practices to help our customers make more informed choices.

Improving supply chain sustainability:

We consider carefully partnering with suppliers that prioritise sustainability and have a track record of environmental and social responsibility.

By prioritising these sustainability areas we are committed to a more environmentally conscious future.
